Spring Breeze and Brightly Colored Trees.

I woke up one morning and decided that I would tackle a skirt for my next project! Here is what I made.  When I finished sewing I realized that I loved the cut but needed a little more detail to complete the look! So I grabbed some ribbon and got a little creative! I am really pleased with the way this skirt ended up! Hope you enjoy the look!

It’s All Coming Together!

I am so excited with how well this jacket is coming together for having to make a pattern from scratch. Recently I have been working on the sleeves for both the lining and the jacket itself…. let me just say, its not so easy!

The only way you learn what not to do in the future is by doing it while you are still learning. It is so cool though to see how God can teach you an important lesson (patience) at ANY time.. in my case making a jacket and having to sew the same sleeve over..and over!! :) But the point is that I am learning and that I am loving every minute of it! The jacket is close to being finished. Can’t wait to see the final product!

Always Up for a Challenge.

I have recently been asked by a friend to make a jacket. I am always up for a challenge, as making this jacket will not exactly be the easiest thing I have ever done. I looked through many pattern books, to find that you are limited to one of two things when it comes to mens clothing… 1. “Sleep Wear”- a.k.a: your standard men’s baseball t-shirt and a pair of plaid pants, and 2. “A Fleece” (almost like a North Face knock-off)

“That’s it?!?!” Honestly, I was not expecting an entire book full of patterns but at least a pattern for a men’s golf collared shirt, or some simple everyday shorts, or even a t-shirt! I could not believe that out of all of the books I looked through there was only two items to choose from!
Well I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I had a great idea for this jacket and if I had to make a pattern myself, I would! So thats exactly what I did, and let me tell you that newspaper, tracing paper, and a rotary cutter go a LONG way!
The jacket is off to a good start! Stay tuned and I will keep you posted!

God is Good.

There is so much to be thankful for at this stage in my life. God has blessed me so much and He is showing me everyday how much He truly loves me and has a plan for my life. He is bringing friends into my life that are just awesome. I have an amazing job working at a Toy Store (doesn’t get any better than that) and in my spare time I get to create new things with my fabulous sewing machine. I would hate to start a blog about the work that I am doing without out giving my Abba Father all the credit.

A Dress for All Seasons.

“Simple” is not a word I would use to describe making this dress. Although the detail and fitting of it was what made me pick it. After looking through books of patterns that did not suit my style I came across this dress and fell in love with it. Only on paper does it look so simple, but I would soon find out that this would test my limited experience so far. My favorite part of this dress is the sleeves. I would say its “Showing a little shoulder gone classy”.

Thank goodness for Grandmothers!

I have always had an interest in fashion. Never did I think that I could be part of it.
After looking through MANY dresses in my attempt to find a fun and different Homecoming dress and disappointed that I did’t find anything, I finally resulted to sketching. Knowing what I wanted in my head and drawing it on paper was not the issue, not owning a sewing machine and having no idea how to sew was a bit of the problem!
Thank goodness for grandmothers!
What a talented and sweet woman my grandmother is. She took time out of her busy schedule to help me create a fabulous, chic, and somewhat crazy dress. I sat there with jaw to the floor in sheer amazement of how gracefully my grandmother worked. She made it look so easy! I was a quick learner but she was definitely patient with me as I did my share in making the dress.

I was so happy with how the dress turned out and encouraged to keep going! With the help of my grandmother, who bought me a sewing machine for graduation, I have just begun my journey in finding my own style and the talent God has gifted me with.
